How to love cooking

My friend & I were recently talking about how people will cook out of necessity or because of the love to cook. We both have taken on a greater appreciation for food we cook as it is more than just eating to no longer be full, we are eating because it fuels our body.

For me, I cook because I love it! The way that the flavors combine & the scent fills the house. I love eating delicious food that I cooked that fuels my body well to power myself through the day & my life.

Do you cook out of necessity? I know that cooking can bring many challenges. Not having the right pots & pans & utensils, having no idea where to begin or what to cook – I have been there! I am currently using very scratched up pans with hand me down utensils. More often than not I have no idea what to make. I start by listening to my body, what is my body craving, green vegetables? Potatoes (although I always love potatoes in all forms so is this my body telling me I need it or just my cravings, you tell me)? Chicken? Fruit? I then take to Pinterest & type in my craving, keeping in mind what groceries I have at home so I don’t waste food!

Cooking is learned through lots of trial & error! I tend to be very much a perfectionist so failing at cooking is hard for me but then I learn & try again!

Now you may say, “but Hannah I want to eat & cook healthy food but it never tastes good”. If you are trying to recreate Mac & cheese without dairy it will be hard to recreate the same flavors as before – try to create new flavors, add new spices & new textures, expand your mind!

Now honestly this all sounds easy but cooking over & over again may sometimes feel like work but as you learn your body & become more creative in the kitchen it won’t feel like such a chore all of the time. I like to make a meal for some friends & then after we have all eaten get their honest feedback, what would they change, what would they keep. It keeps me humble (LOL) & challenges me!

Let’s talk more about you unique love for cooking!

Hannah
